One-time National Football League Player Antonio Brown Files Innocent Plea in Attempted Murder Case

Former National Football League wide receiver Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an attempted murder allegation related to a shooting that occurred in May, with his attorney filing a not guilty declaration on his behalf.

Correctional logs in Essex County, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was released on Tuesday early for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the NFL, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being apprehended in Dubai.

Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an message that he has already filed a documented not guilty declaration to the attempted murder accusation. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as soon as Wednesday morning for a release proceeding, Eiglarsh said.

Based on his arrest warrant, Brown is alleged of seizing a pistol from a safety guard after a public figure match bout in May and discharging two bullets at a person he had fought with previously. The reported target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed authorities that one of the bullets scraped his nape.

Eiglarsh said that Brown was only safeguarding himself from Nantambu.

“The actions he was compelled to take were exclusively in self-defense against the claimed individual’s violent actions. Brown was attacked that night and responded within his lawful right to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh commented.

Brown was not promptly apprehended because originally officers did not identify Nantambu as a victim. It only later in May that Nantambu delivered a complete testimony about the incident to officers and named Brown as the shooter, the affidavit says.

Based on his online content, Brown had been staying in Dubai for multiple period. In a post after the confrontation, Brown stated he was defending himself because he was “attacked by several persons who attempted to rob my valuables and bring personal injury to me.”

A level two attempted murder allegation in the state of Florida bears a maximum 15-year incarceration penalty and up to a ten thousand dollar fee in the instance of a conviction.

Brown has dealt with numerous legal problems over the period. He previously had been charged of battery of a vehicle employee, multiple abuse allegations, inability to pay child support and further occurrences.

In a 2021 game with his team against the opponents, Brown took off his uniform, protective gear and handwear and left the arena, resulting in his dismissal by the Buccaneers and practically concluding his NFL career.

Brown, who completed twelve years in the league, was an elite player who spent most of his career with Pittsburgh. Throughout his time, Brown had 928 receptions for over 12,291 gains, the twenty-eighth highest of all time. He was a 7-time Pro Bowl selection.
